On Friday, April 5th, GCMSA is hosting Rock With The Docs, a “battle of the bands” style event showcasing the talents of local physician musicians. Competing bands include Greenlight Savoy, Musicians in Medicine, RadDad, The Rent, and Steve Eager & Friends. All proceeds of Rock With The Docs will be donated to support the local non-profit organization Front Porch Housing.
Front Porch Housing (FPH) is a supportive, rehabilitative, 3-year housing program for individuals and families coming out of addiction, mental illness, domestic violence, human trafficking, displacement, and poverty. Beyond stable, affordable housing, Front Porch provides supportive services, including medical care, dental care, YMCA membership, individual counseling, regular drug screening, education & employment support, life skills classes, savings match funds (up to $100 a month), care coordinator support, multi-disciplinary individual care plan, and quarterly equipping/connecting dinners.
GCMSA is a local nonprofit organization comprised of physicians’ spouses dedicated to the advancement of medicine and promoting public health initiatives. For over 90 years, GCMSA has supported health-oriented community programs in the Greenville area.
Nicole Felkel is the president of GCMSA, as well as a mental health therapist providing services to residents of Front Porch Housing.
“The people and the mission of Front Porch Housing are near and dear to me,” Nicole says. “It’s such a unique blessing that my involvement with GCMSA is able to provide support to this incredible organization.”
An event of this kind depends heavily on support from community partners. GCMSA and FPH wish to send a shout-out to all the sponsors of the event: Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, The Felkel Family, The Peabody Foundation, Upstate Pediatric Dentistry, The Greenville County Medical Society, Audi of Greenville, CapTrust, The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health, The Graphic Cow, The Guichard Family, The Ingram Family, McMillion Consulting, The Melonakos Law Firm, Periodontics of Greenville, Rad Dad, Stringer Fuel, Wagner Wealth Management, The Watson Family, Eric & Meredith Bonno, Grace Church, Jill Gabler Kountz (Allen Tate Realtors), The Mathes Family, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, Jenny & Scott Watson, Pepsi of Greenville, and Tru Color.
“We’ve been so impressed with the way our community has stepped up to support this event,” Nicole tells me. “The generosity of sponsors and contributions from local business owners is how we make big things happen.” Rock with the Docs takes place Friday, April 5, from 5:30-9:30pm at Front Porch Housing.
