The YMCA of Greenville broke ground today on the recreational facility expansion at the Prisma Health Family YMCA in Simpsonville in response to Southern Greenville County’s exponential growth in recent years. The campus expansion project will enhance the experience of the more than 14,900 members served by the Prisma Health Family YMCA in the Simpsonville/Mauldin area.
As one of Greenville County’s leading nonprofit health and human services organizations, the YMCA nurtures the potential and well-being of kids, adults and families in the community each and every day. The groundbreaking marks a significant step in the transformational journey toward providing added space for members and participants.
The initial phase of the multi-step campus expansion project will add an additional 14,500 total square feet to the current 80,000 square foot campus and will include:
• Second Gymnasium – Due to the growing needs of Youth Development programming, an additional 7,700 square foot gymnasium will be built for afterschool, summer day camp and youth sports. The space will also enhance other recreational programs such as group exercise, pickleball, RECESS, home school PE, dance and more).• Child Care Programs – Currently held offsite at Life Spring Community Church and Adams Mill Sports Fields, the expansion will allow the return of childcare programs back onsite at the Prisma Health Family YMCA.• Classrooms – Three 900 square foot classrooms to be utilized for Youth Development programming.• Dedicated drop-off/pickup circle• Staff Enhancements – Two offices, one conference room, additional restrooms and a pantry will be added in the expansion.
Phase Two will include additional parking for the entire facility, a second pool with a DynaDome cover, and additional land development needs to prepare the site for future additions.
“The Prisma Health Family YMCA branch campus expansion project will allow us to serve even more members and children and will result in a stronger YMCA that has the resources necessary to carry out our time-honored mission to provide a place for all people to build healthy spirit, mind and body,” says Sam Franklin, president, and CEO of the YMCA of Greenville. “This is only the beginning, and there is so much more to come.”
The YMCA of Greenville looks forward to bringing these improvements to life and enhancing the community’s experience at the Prisma Health Family YMCA.
