Prisma Health announced today a $1 million investment to fund the Prisma Health Welcome Center in Unity Park. With roots in the city’s first public hospital established more than a century ago, Prisma Health celebrates its continued commitment to Greenville in supporting organizations working to make our community better.
For more than a century, the health system has served the growing health needs of the Upstate and maintained a steady history of community partnerships and contributions. In this gift, Prisma Health aims to amplify its mission and deepen its impact in supporting organizations and initiatives that make a difference.
“The many partnerships we’re fortunate to have in our communities help fuel our purpose: to inspire health, serve with compassion and make a difference,” said Prisma Health President and CEO Mark O’Halla. “Unity Park is knitting our community together, fostering a sense of belonging and honoring the rich history of the surrounding neighborhoods and people who live there.”
O’Halla noted the natural link between parks and personal health, also demonstrated in Prisma Health’s sponsorship of the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit trail that runs through the park adjacent to the Welcome Center.
“At Prisma Health, we strive to help those around us feel safe, healthy and supported, and creating a Welcome Center for Unity Park is an additional way we can underscore that,” O’Halla said.
“Greenville has been blessed over the past hundred years with a robust and transformative health system,” said Mayor Knox White. “Not only that, but Prisma Health carries the legacy of caring deeply for the community, far beyond the clinical care it provides inside its walls. Their investment in Unity Park will continue to touch lives for generations to come, and we are truly grateful.”
The 10,000-square-foot Prisma Health Welcome Center sits at the very center of Unity Park nestled between the Reedy River and the park’s state-of-the-art playgrounds.
The Prisma Health Welcome Center will include a self-service first aid station, a lactation room and, most important, a space where the community can come together to attend public events and educational programs as well as hold neighborhood and family gatherings. Prisma Health looks forward to hosting educational health programs, as well.
Visitors relaxing outside on the wraparound porch will enjoy views of the Reedy River and the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail that runs alongside.
Prisma Health joins Michelin Corporate Foundation, Duke Energy Foundation, Greenville Water, Auro Hotels, Craig and Vicki Brown, the Donovan family, the Spinks Family Foundation, TD SYNNEX Corporation, Fluor Corporation, Verizon, the Community Foundation of Greenville and Greenville Women Giving in publicly announcing their partnerships in Unity Park. More than $12 million in private money has been raised for construction of the first phase of the park, scheduled to open in late spring 2022.
