GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Greenville Scottish Games has announced the 2022 Royal Highland Fusilier Honor Guard team for 2022.
The Royal Highland Fusiliers are the most decorated unit in the British Army, and will be making its 10th appearance at the Games this year. Since their inception in 2005, the Greenville Scottish Games has consistently taken an innovative, fresh approach to celebrating Scottish heritage. Greenville is nestled in arguably the highest concentration of people Scots-Irish descent in the country.
The Royal Highland Fusiliers will take part in all events and will lead military salute at the games, and are sponsored by the St. Andrew’s Society of Upper South Carolina. This year’s members of the guard include WO2 Lee McConachie, CSgt Charles Davidson, Fus. Thomas Biggart, Fus. George Bowyer, LCpl Nathan Allen, LCpl Joshua Dill, LCpl Ryan Steel, and Cpl David Mathieson.
The Games will kick-off with the Great Scot! Parade on Main Street in downtown Greenville on Friday, May 27th at 6 p.m. The main event will be held on the Furman University campus the following day.
“Our incredible relationship with the Royal Highland Fusiliers has grown over the years into a dedicated friendship,” said Jay Spivey, Marketing Director and Board Member of the Games. “I believe we are the only highland games in the country that has an active duty British Army unit serving as an honor guard.”
