Greenville Area Parkinson Society raises $71,500 at annual event

More than 100 members and sponsors of The Greenville Area Parkinson Society (GAPS) celebrated the organization’s raising $71,500 during its Spring fundraising drive this week.

The $71,500 broke last year’s total of $68,000, said Kamber Parker, GAPS’ development director. The announcement came during a Member Celebration sponsored by Kyowa Kirin.

GAPS raised awareness about Parkinson’s Disease through fundraising and walking challenges during the past few months that incorporated an engaging train theme to raise money for the organization’s free programs offered to people with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers in the Upstate.

Parkinson’s Disease is currently the fastest growing neurological disorder, and the local diagnoses are expected to double in the coming decade, so awareness and education about this disease are critical for our community.
