SENECA, SOUTH CAROLINA, April 12, 2022 – BASF Seneca recently celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of production technician apprentices, immediately began its second cohort, and then opened an additional 15 apprentice positions.
The seven graduates of Seneca’s inaugural class were honored at Tri-County Technical College’s (TCTC) Oconee campus in March while the second class (cohort) of apprentices were also announced. The seven graduates are the first group in South Carolina to complete BASF’s North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP), which is a partnership between BASF, TCTC and Apprenticeship Carolina. The NAADP program aims to meet future talent needs for a skilled and diverse technician workforce with an emphasis on attracting more females to these roles. The graduates earned competitive full-time pay and complete benefits while they participated in a 12-month on-the-job training program that included earning a certificate in Process Technology from Tri-County Technical College. At the end of the program, apprentices have the skills and credentials to be placed in permanent positions. All seven apprentices from the site in Seneca accepted full-time permanent roles with BASF upon completion of the apprenticeship program.
“We couldn’t do this without the partnership with TCTC and Apprenticeship Carolina,” said Operations Manager Dave Sanders, who supports the NAADP program in Seneca. “This partnership is so important because it provides people with no prior experience in manufacturing with the tools they need to explore and find success in the manufacturing industry.”
BASF’s facility in Seneca currently has seven apprentices working through the second apprenticeship cohort, and they recently opened 15 new apprentice positions, tentatively scheduled to begin in July 2022. BASF in Clemson also opened up one apprentice position. In addition to competitive full-time pay, BASF also offers medical, dental, vision and 401k benefits, along with paid vacation time, opportunities for annual bonuses and merit increases, backup child and elder care, and more. Additionally, BASF covers the cost of tuition, books and fees associated with the program.
