Despite many day-to-day challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, American Family Care (AFC), the nation’s leading provider of urgent care, accessible primary care and occupational medicine, continues to expand its network in the Upstate with the opening of its first urgent care center in Clemson, South Carolina.
The state-of-the-art medical facility is set to open July 31 and is the 14th AFC to open in South Carolina, positioning AFC as the dominant healthcare provider for families statewide.
“We are excited to bring American Family Care to Clemson,” said Tim Groves, managing member of Upstate Healthcare Holdings, the owner and operator of multiple AFC franchise locations. “There has been a lack of easily accessible quality healthcare in this area for many years. Now, with the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, our services are needed more than ever before.”
Dr. Jeff Harris, a veteran family medicine practitioner with more than 15 years of experience, is heading up AFC Clemson as Medical Director. Harris said the clinic will offer in-office appointments and AFC TeleCare (virtual visits) and will fill a void when it comes to healthcare options for Clemson University staff and students.
“We will be able to serve the local community, but we have also established a connection with the college infirmary to provide care for students in situations where the campus cannot. After-hours and weekend hours also will serve as a missing link in local medical care for students,” Harris said.
Although it is a medical center, the AFC clinic is still a business — one that opened in the middle of a pandemic.
“We started working on opening this location long before the pandemic hit,” Groves said. “With more than a dozen clinics now serving communities in the Upstate, we know South Carolina families see the value of having an AFC in their backyard.”
The Clemson clinic is part of an aggressive expansion plan for Upstate Healthcare Holdings, one of the larger AFC franchise owners, to make AFC’s quality care accessible to residents across South Carolina. It operates locations in Greenville, Powdersville, Boiling Springs, Anderson, Easley, Duncan and Greenwood. The next clinic is set to open in Mauldin in 2021, and there are plans to open up to four additional locations in the Upstate over the next few years.
AFC provides a comprehensive suite of medical services that save families time and money. The centers are staffed with skilled medical professionals who are deeply committed to providing outstanding medical care.
